Mindfulness & You: A Heart-filled Journey to Lessen Stress for P-12 School Leaders

As school leaders, how we show up has a profound effect on our students. Participants will learn what mindfulness is and what it is not, have a direct experience through a guided practice, and learn the power of formal and informal mindfulness practice for personal, professional and overall well-being. Join professional coach Jean Trujillo in three engaging, mindful and practical 2-hour sessions, where participants will: 

1. Gain an understanding of mindfulness and MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction), beyond the buzzwords: How does mindfulness support well-being when participants are asked to approach the practice with no expectations? 

2. Experience guided mindfulness practice: Experience its transformative effects firsthand and learn simple, practical techniques that can be incorporated into daily routines. 

3. Interrupt Automaticity and Reactivity: Understand how mindfulness practices can disrupt automatic, habitual responses and reactivity. Discover how this interruption leads to greater clarity, conscious decision-making, and more thoughtful responses. 

4. Develop Practical Applications: Gain insights into practical ways to integrate mindfulness into the school setting by starting with our own personal practice. Understand how mindfulness can benefit teachers, students and parents, and develop practical applications in a school setting. 

Coach Jean invites participants to schedule a brief individual meeting (10 - 15 min) prior to the course start date. This will give us a chance to get to know each other and for you to ask any questions.

Session 1: 

Session 1 will focus on getting to know each other and exploring the stressors in our personal and professional lives. We will create our individual vision for self-care, identify obstacles that get in our way, and brainstorm experiments to test between sessions. Coach Jean will lead participants in a guided mindfulness practice. Participants are invited to journal their reflections on this guided practice.

Session 2:

Session 2 will explore our shared experiences: what are similarities and differences among participants’ experiences? We will experience a longer guided mindfulness practice.  

Session 3: 

Session 3 will focus on strengthening our individual mindfulness practice beyond this introductory course.
