Many first generation or immigrant professionals struggle with showing and talking about their skills in the culture and professional expectations of U.S. work contexts. They may be looking for their next great opportunity, if they knew how much they could offer to the world. This course will support you in your journey of finding your new career, using and leveraging your existing skills and work experiences. The goal of the course is not only supporting you in finding a great opportunity, but also helping you find the perfect options aligned with your personality, values, and dreams. Join Dr. Zeynep Ercan, an accomplished higher education leader, researcher, public speaker, and award winner educator and coach with 20 years of experience in educational, adult learning, and interactional contexts.

Who should join this course? You are a first generation U.S. adult or an immigrant adult in the age range of 35-60. You have employment authorization in the U.S. You have at least a Bachelor’s Degree and sufficient knowledge of English for work and daily communication. We will practice interview scripts so you do not have to be extremely fluent in English. You have worked before either in the U.S. or abroad in a job requiring Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral education.

Session 1

This session will help you better understand yourself as an individual, tap into your creative and resourceful mind, and find out the best options for a career path. We will engage in practical experiences and techniques to bring out your conviction and clarity about yourself and will improve your ability and self-confidence.

Session 2

Participants will develop a 10-20 year long term life planning in order to determine the best course of the action. This session will also focus on your existing CV and specifically look at your past experience to create possibilities for a variety of career pathways. 

Session 3

This session will help you to understand the language of the particular fields and experience required to match your past experience. Participants will explore a variety of popular but overlooked career pathways and will begin searching for different opportunities. Participants will begin developing a master CV and cover letter that can be used for a variety of opportunities.

Session 4

This session will further help you to cover occupational landscape and determine the best opportunity to focus on for your next opportunity. you help you to understand the language of the particular field and experience required to match your past experience. Participants will explore a variety of popular but overlooked career pathways and will begin searching for different opportunities. Participants will begin developing their new Master CVs and cover letters for a variety of opportunities.

Session 5

This session will help participants achieve clarity about the next job opportunity and continue customizing their CVs Participants will search for job opportunities that they would like to target. This session will also allow you to experience mock-interview scenarios where you get to tell others about yourself and your overall skills. 

Session 6

This session is designed as a coaching session to finalize their application materials, continue with mock interviews and receive feedback on their application materials and continue the mock interview process.

Please note that this course involves about 2-4 hours of outside preparation in between the sessions to get your ready for a job application in 6 weeks. This is an important goal that you are allowing resources and we need to make sure you are able to make the progress to have a strong skills set at the end of your experience. (I will donate %70 of the proceedings from the course to struggling students overseas. If you have financial struggles, reach out to us).
