3 Tips For a Healthier Relationship

There is no one way to have the perfect relationship because each relationship is unique. They can be fun and light, or passionate and intense. While ups and downs will always be present when you are in a connection, you can follow tips to mitigate the tough times and prolong the good. Here are three tips to have a healthier relationship:

  1. Practice mindfulness

Mindfulness is the practice of clearing your thoughts and focusing on the current moment. In today’s society, it can be easy to find your mind traveling a million miles away, worrying about this or that. This poses a threat to your relationship. If you are not mentally present with your partner, they can begin to feel neglected and alone. Take a few minutes a day to practice mindfulness by meditating, doing yoga, or a simple activity such as knitting. By doing this you will be able to train your brain to stay present. Soon this will be second nature to you and you will be able to stay in the moment with your partner. This is a great way to strengthen your connection.

  1. Communicate more effectively

You’ve probably heard this advice before. That is because it is the foundation of any good relationship, romantic or otherwise. Ensure that you take the time to understand what you want to say to your partner before you begin tough conversations. At times, we can be careless with our word choice, tone, and syntax (sentence structure). This can lead to misunderstandings that can harm the relationship. Take the time to think before you speak. Also, ensure that you listen to what your partner is saying and not what you want them to say. If confused, make sure to ask for clarification so that both partners can be on the same page.

  1. Have a life outside of your significant other

Some of us have to admit that there have been times we’ve gotten lost in a relationship to make sure our partner is content. At times, this is falsely encouraged as a way to have a healthy relationship. However, when you get so wrapped in a connection that you forget who you are, you cease to be the person your significant other chose to be with. Combat this by continuing hobbies and activities you enjoyed before. You will retain your individuality. Not to mention, doing separate activities ensures that you and your partner will always have something to talk about!

Whether your relationship is going through a rough period or you would like more strategies to keep it healthy, these tips are sure to help your relationship grow and thrive.  Check out our offerings on www.impactelearn.com to learn more about this topic!
